Save Covenanters Field in Bothwell Scotland

Refuse all plans to develop the Covenanters Field in Bothwell for any housing or commercial development and to consider a more appropriate application for this site as proposed by the local organisation Brighter Bothwell.

Why is this important?

This is important because it is a unique place as the last remaining undeveloped part of the battlefield of Bothwell Bridge fought on the 22nd June 1679. Developing this proven battle site for a housing development has been described by an eminent Scottish historian Professor Tom Devine as a "desecration". The field could be developed for education, tourism and recreation for the long term benefit of the community. The site is on the register of important battlefields as recognised by Historic Scotland.
