Why is this important?
These care homes provide long term and respite care. A lifeline for residents and families. Mcwhirters House in Larkhall and Kirkton House in High Blantyre are scheduled for closure without proper public consultation.
This is a disgrace!
The next phases will see the closure of Mcclymont House in Lanark and Canderavon in Stonehouse. The overall scheme will see the introduction of a hub that will provide transitional care only and will offer no replacement for the loss of over 100 long term beds in South Lanarkshire.
This can only lead to disaster. Communities must be consulted. We must value our older people and offer true choice. For some that may be long term care in a care home, for some that may be care in their own home. Each are individuals and should be treated as such.
