Save the Frome Plane Tree

03/04/14 - I am pleased to announce that today, Mendip District Council have refused the application to fell the Frome Plane Tree. Thank you all for signing the petition - 2,744 signatures of support undoubtably made a difference - amounting to around 10% of Frome town's population. Well done also to those 80 of you that made a direct objection to the council, as that is the forum they really have to listen to.

Reject a planning application to fell a mature London Plane tree in Frome.

Why is this important?

Just 6 months after granting a Tree Preservation Order on this London Plane Tree, Mendip has received an application to fell. Unfortunately the TPO will not save the tree from Pangmore Development's application if approved by Mendip District Council.
This is one of the last trees in the town centre and certainly the last tree of note in the Kingsway precinct. It is a specimen town centre tree and plays a major contribution in the character of the Conservation Area, and its felling would be a major loss to the aesthetic quality of the town.

Dear Friends of the Frome Plane Tree,

I am pleased to announce that today, Mendip District Council have refused the application to fell the Frome Plane Tree. Thank you all for signing the petition - 2,744 signatures of support undoubtably made a difference - amounting to around 10% of Frome town's population. I hope that Pangmore Developments take note of the strong message sent by the people of Frome and accept the Council's decision, and allow the tree to live on.

Once again, thanks, it couldn't have happened without you!

Best regards,

Julian Hight

Local newspaper The Frome Times want to run a story on the Frome Plane Tree and the campaign to save it, and will be meeting myself and other supporters under the tree in the Kingsway Precinct, Frome, tomorrow morning at 9am (Tuesday 4 March) for a photo to accompany the article. It would be great if you could come along - be part of a group photo - to show support for the tree. The more the merrier! If you plan to attend, please send me an e-mail so I can get an idea of numbers.
