Save the Harold J Finch Memorial Park

To look again at the proposed housing development on the Sir Harold J Finch Memorial Park Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, as a long term plan for the future, not as a short term solution.

Why is this important?

The proposed development is adjacent to a Local Nature Reserve including an SSSI. This will have a negative effect on the LNR. The park was dedicated to Sir Harold J Finch in 1982 by Islwyn Borough Council and a cairn with plaque was unveiled in 1987 it was rededicated 1993 with the plaque placed on large boundary stone attesting the boundary of the park. There is a proposal to move this memorial boundary stone. This proposed development will be within the Sir Harold Finch Memorial Park. This site is important for Natural and Historic reasons and should be protected under the Environment (Wales) Act 2016 and the sustainable management of natural resources, within the context of the Well-being of Future Generations Act Wales 2016. Save the park for the environment, biodiversity and protection of ecosystems and to the memory of a man a lifelong Socialist, who dedicated his life to serving the people of the Bedwellty Constituency.
