Say No to Building Homes On Lowes Road Landfill Site

The Council have received an application for the building of 26 houses on the Lowes Road Landfill site. The site is currently an Other Protected Open Land Site. The disturbance to wildlife, deer, birds and the like is unacceptable. The initial digging and removal of trees has caused some homes to smell gas; rats have appeared in some gardens and a mud slide has increased significantly in the local school. Assessments for traffic and disturbance to existing locals have been carried out at times when traffic is slow or non existent, distorting the real horror of the issue facing us. Stop this application as building can be done elsewhere and this site is toxic and unsafe once disturbed.

Why is this important?

We care about this issues as the toxic gases under the landfill cannot at this stage be measured. Once digging begins the gases may be released and our water contaminated. We want more extensive assessments carried out and an Environmental Impact Assessment done and reported upon by an independent company, not one connected with the owners of the site.

We are heading to 50 signatures and we have almost 50 on another petition. We have a meeting on Monday with 3 Councillors and hope that they can shed some light on our anxieties. Thank you to all that have signed our petition.

We, the undersigned, object to the planning application no. 57441."
I have just had a visit from the Bury times to discuss the issues faced by the local residents group. I provided a background from my own perspective and have sent them via email minutes of our meetings. However, I think that you may want to telephone or email your version of things and how it affects you. Contact me for an email address or telephone Bury times 01204 537255 and ask for Andrew Bardsley

" We, the undersigned, object to the planning application no. 57441."
I have spent the last hour and 15 minutes surveying the traffic outside of the local school 8-9.15
the traffic is absolutely dense up and down the road and the large volume of cars makes it difficult to pass safely and more seriously makes it unsafe for the children. Currently on Talbot Road there is building work taking place on a new nursery which when finished will create increased traffic around the area. This will have a severe impact on Lowes Road and surrounding streets. When/if, the Planning Application is agreed the traffic from the builders, residents and the school, nursery will be a major problem, not to mention parking in the area. I have taken some photographs this morning to send in with our petition to the Council. One parent approached me this morning and offered photographs that she has taken because she is concerned about the safety of the children near and around the school.

There are a number of residents working hard to stop the planning application thank you so much to all. The Local school Head has also written an objection.
