No lock-down for everyone over 70

No lock-down for everyone over 70

The Government should take a nuanced approach to pandemic control based on individual risk factors rather than a simplistic age-based cut-off point that would consign swathes of the population unnecessarily to a prolonged period of isolation.

Why is this important?

• It is not purposeful to divide the population simply by age as some people over 70 are at lower risk than some younger people.
• It is not a proportionate response to expect people who are not at high risk to self-isolate for many months.
• It is better for society as a whole that over 70s continue to function in their many roles as workers, carers, volunteers and consumers.

Reasons for signing

  • This is ageism: assuming a universal risk based on age alone.
  • I am over 70 and very well generally, busy working on-line as a University Lecturer and Clinical Practitioner. I believe I am making a valuable contribution to others, and, keeping myself physically & mentally well by continuing to work. Of course I am careful, as much (if not more so) for others as myself.
  • Discrimination against healthy 70 year old's
