Scotland - please don't leave us we need you
To ask Scottish voters to vote 'No' in the Scottish referendum.
Why is this important?
If Scotland leaves the Union , all British people will be devastated. The Scots have had months of debate, but we down South have had no way of expressing our love and deep concerns. We have no vote. This is a petition to Scottish voters before it is too late - please draw back from the brink, please say NO.
As Will Hutton recently wrote, if Scotland secedes from a 300-year union, it will 'sunder genuine bonds of love, split families, and wrench all the interconnectness forged from our shared history. Absurdly, there will be two countries on the same small island that have so much in common. If Britan can't find some way of sticking together, it is the death of the liberal enlightenment before the atavistic forces of nationalism and ethnicity - a dark omen for the 21st century. Britain will cease as an idea. We will all be diminished.'
The Scottish referendum is not just a distant event. It will have a very real impact on all of us in a thousand different ways. There will no longer be any 'Team GB', no shared goals, and a revival of all the bitter centuries of suspicion and backbiting which the Union successfully brought to a close. The referendum is very near. This our last chance for for the rest of us to have our say, and to do something. Please sign this petition if you want Scotland to vote NO.
