Scott Benton must resign - the people of Brighouse deserve better!

Councillor Scott Benton is betraying the people of Brighouse.

Wonder why you haven’t heard much of him recently, and noticed that he’s given up on the people of Brighouse? That's because since December 2019, Scott has also been serving as the MP for Blackpool. He has all but abandoned our town during the pandemic.

We demand that Scott Benton does the right thing (and also what he promised) and resigns with immediate effect as Councillor for Brighouse.

Is Scott Benton value for public money? He admits to doing 8 hours council work a month, hardly attends meetings, yet claims £879.92 a month from the council. The election can only happen if he resigns. Scott said himself he "would give up his council seat as soon as an election can be held to elect a replacement" - well that election is this May, but Scott still has not resigned.

Not only that, but Scott Benton is under investigation by the standards authority for breaking conduct and for not correctly reporting his finances. He has destroyed any trust his constituents had in him. He risks bringing shame on Brighouse, shame on Calderdale Council, and shame on decent, hard working local people who've been keeping us going throughout the pandemic. He must resign responsibility as a Councillor for our town without delay.
