Stafford Borough Council, treat the climate emergency as urgently as the science demands!

We, the undersigned, call on Stafford Borough Council to treat the climate emergency as urgently as the science demands and bring forward its target date to 2030 at the latest.

Why is this important?

The United Nations International Panel on Climate Change warned in 2018 that we have only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C. Beyond that even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.

Stafford Borough Council declared a Climate Emergency in July. It says it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its own activities ‘to work towards carbon neutrality by 2040’.

We, the undersigned, call on Stafford Borough Council to treat the climate emergency as urgently as the science demands and bring forward its target date to 2030 at the latest.
