Challenge Boots the Chemist to charge fair prices for vital treatments, including a mouthwash needed by cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
There are reports that Boots charged the NHS £3,220 for 600 ml of the medicinal mouthwash, which costs only £93 from a pharmacy in West Sussex for the same quantity. If true, this is shameless exploitation, and is unworthy of a retailer which has hitherto been a trusted high street institution.
Why is this important?
With the rise in demand for healthcare, and tight funding, the NHS is facing an existential challenge already. It should not need to face the rapacious greed of US-owned pharmaceutical companies.
