Just when Bristol Airport expansion looked dead and buried... A planning inquiry reviewing North Somerset Council's decisions to reject expansion has overturned their decision. The campaign must resume. Bristol Airport Action Network are fundraising legal costs to appeal the planning inquiry's decision at the High Court. Deep breath... it's not often you get to say this in the struggle... good news! North Somerset Council today voted to reject Bristol Airport's expansion plans. It's a major barrier in the path of airport expansion. But the fight isn't over. But the plans are one step closer to the bin.... WOOHOOO GREAT WORK EVERYONE!

North Somerset Council will make the final planning decision on 10th February. There's still time to object to the application: head to http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/planning and search for the planning reference 18/P/5118/OUT. The Council are accepting objections until Thursday 6th February.

Clevedon, Yatton, Nailsea & Congresbury Town Councils have all decided to make written objections to the airport expansion and Bath & North East Somerset Council has raised serious concerns. The pressure on North Somerset Council keeps growing.

The next big date will be the planning meeting where North Somerset Council will make the decision. We'll let you know as soon as North Somerset Council fix a date. We'll need as many of you as possible outside that meeting in Weston-Super-Mare.

A whopping 1973 formal objections were registered to the planning application, meaning North Somerset Council are under quite some pressure - but we're going to have to keep it up! Planning hearings and a decision are due towards the end of April. Stay tuned for more information!

Only a week left to submit your formal objection to the planning application! The comment deadline is Saturday 26th January. You can submit an objection on North Somerset Council's website. It doesn't have to be anthing long - just a short paragraph explaining why you object to the airport's expansion.

There have been lots of great actions this week. More than 180 people got together in Wrington to fight the airport's expansion and yesterday Bristol Extinction Rebellion led a 'die-in' protest at Bristol Airport's departure lounge. You can read more in the Bristol Post:

Bristol Airport has submitted a planning application to North Somerset Council. They want a 50% increase in passengers and, shockingly, a 59% increase in carbon emissions by 2026. This will devastate the villages around the airport and it will cause irreparable damage to the climate. The latest report by the IPCC said we need carbon emissions cuts of 45% by 2030 if we are to limit global warming to 1.5ºC. Bristol Airport's expansion plans are of grave danger to people and planet and North Somerset Council would be committing a serious environmental crime by approving them.

You can submit a public objection to the planning application on the North Somerset Council website. It doesn't have to be anything long - just a short paragraph, perhaps using some of the information provided on this petition.

Bristol Airport is ploughing ahead. It's now running a second set of public events to try and sell its plans - and to gauge how much opposition they're likely to face. The critical decision point is yet to come. That'll be when they ask for planning permission. But it's still another good time to voice opposition to the airport, as much as anything so that others in our communities feel comfortable speaking out too.

If you're looking for other ways to resist the airport expansion, now would be a good time to start making contact with neighbours who are also troubled by the plans. We'll need as many people as possible to oppose it when they do ask for planning permission.
