Don't fine people for begging in Newcastle

We have been made aware that Newcastle City Council are getting new powers so they can hand out fines to people who beg on the street. It’s an attempt to sweep begging out of the area, but it could mean people on the streets over winter face fines they can’t afford.

We should be helping people, not hurting them.

Our benches and bus stops have been made in ways no one could possibly obtain shelter already, where are the homeless supposed to go?

When people can't afford a decent meal how could they possibly afford a fine?

It's like waiting to see who dies first, and is the ultimate in cruelty.

Why is this important?

It's self explanatory, really? Who came up with this horrible idea? Where does the money go?

This campaign is based on this information from Newcastle council's website:

If you have anything that suggests that Newcastle Council are no longer able to fine people for begging then we'd love to hear more from you, drop us an email at [email protected]
