Stop importing from EU puppy farms

Tighten up the legislation regarding who can call themselves a rescue.
Current laws allow 16wk old puppies upwards to be brought in by an organisation, then immediately sold to a 3rd party who haven't been home checked or had arranged meetings - they've just bought a dog from the internet effectively.

There needs to be a stipulation that the rescue assess and welfare check, on their own registered premises in the UK, each individual dog for a minimum of 4wks.
The dog also requires a vet check after 4 wks, including a temperament test, before going to new home - this would mean no dog being homed before 5 months minimum.

The rescue need to home check potential new owners, and take responsibility for the pup should it need to return to them at any date in the future.

Too many dogs are getting loose on handover or within first few weeks of being with new owner - future training needs to be discussed, and those taking on street dogs must have a minimum of a fully fenced 1/4 acre of land.

Why is this important?

Scared, traumatized dogs running loose in the U.K. (unfortunately many dying, hit by cars).

The conditions that the dogs are bred or kept in, to be sold to the British market, are often apalling.

Increase in livestock kills in direct relation to the increase of former street dogs escaping.

Lack of scrutiny of potential owners mean that many, many are going to unsuitable homes.

Often sold on at the moment due to dog prices, but the rescues lack of accountability mean they don't know that.

There are many, many dogs already in the UK needing homes.
