STOP LA Recycling School Balances from Suffolks Primary School, Enfield

Please ask the Local Authority to reconsider their decision to claw back the £22k (.8% over the maximum 8% allowed) of our school's budget. Money will be given to other schools in the borough.

Why is this important?

We are a medium sized primary school, in a high deprivation area of Enfield North London, and in order to balance our budget had the foresight to make drastic changes to:

- our staffing structure (which unfortunately resulted in redundancies and support staff having 5 hours per week cut from their contracts),
- made changes to our school day timetable allowing school to finish at 2.30 (thus alleviating the need for supply staffing PPA time).

All of which impacted on the lives of our parents and staff.

Up until now we and schools have believed that it would be acceptable to retain balances above 8% in order to balance three-year budget plans and sustain staffing levels and teaching and learning standards for as long as possible, particularly in the context of declining funding.

However, for some inexplicable reason, the LA has become fixated on ‘projects’ as being the only justification for retaining balances and has decided that preserving staffing, schools’ most valuable resource, is not a priority.

With the Government now advising Public Sector Pay Rises and no decision where the money is coming from, we need this amount more than ever.

Please sign our petition to ask Joan Ryan MP make the Local Authority listen to those on the ground working hard for our children's education and future.
