Stop oil exploration in Cardigan Bay Marine SAC

Dear friends, family and supporters

I am very pleased to inform you that Eni UK have announced that they have suspended any plans to carry out seismic testing in Cardigan bay Marine SAC due to the overwhelming public outcry. This is an amazing victory however we will have to watch them closely as previous attempts were slipped through at very short notice so we will have to be vigilant. Thank you all so much for your support and please keep signing and sharing as I still intend to deliver the petition at the end of the week to demonstrate the massive public sentiment and ensure that the UK Government think twice before making rash and reckless decisions such as this.

Immediately cease all plans to carry out destructive seismic surveying within the Cardigan Bay Marine Special Area of Conservation by Italian oil company; Eni SpA

Why is this important?

Cardigan bay Marine SAC is an important breeding and feeding area for bottle nose dolphins and harbour porpoises. An environmental impact assessment carried out by London based Orbis Energy has admitted that the proposed seismic activity would have detrimental consequences affecting all forms of wildlife including shellfish, marine mammals and seabirds as well as fish spawning grounds.
Previous extensive seismic surveys have been conducted and have revealed no commercial quantities of hydrocarbons within the area and do not need to be repeated. If however there were any viable reserves discovered the extraction of such would cause irreparable damage to this sensitive marine area and the life it supports whilst making a mockery of the designation of a marine SAC.
Equally at a time when Wales has declared a climate emergency to proceed with the extraction of more fossil fuels is sheer madness. If you have ever been fortunate enough to witness the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay you will understand the importance of protecting their precious habitat for future generations, if not I sincerely hope that you will be able to one day! Please sign and share this petition to ensure we can take it to the UK Government and overturn this reckless decision.
