Give parents a binding vote on the academisation of Paddock Wood and Horsmonden Primary Schools

We, the undersigned - parents and people of Paddock Wood and Horsmonden - petition you, the governors, to give parents of the school a binding vote on the proposed academisation of Paddock Wood and Horsmonden Primary Schools.

Why is this important?

You, the governors, do not have a democratic mandate to make this decision because the majority of you have been appointed. You have not been elected by parents or teachers.

We, the parents, demand a binding vote on the proposal, for our children and for the local communities.

Reasons for signing

  • I wasn’t going to sign this in the beginning as I don’t actually think parents know enough to vote, but have decided it is necessary because I haven’t seen enough of all the governors to have confidence that they all know exactly what they are agreeing to. From everything I’ve read and listened to from school and elsewhere, I can’t see becoming an academy as a good thing. The sales pitch doesn’t stack up for me.
  • Schools should remain part of the Local Authority to administer.

Thank you to everyone who signed the petition. We delivered it to Scott Opstad this morning at the school and gave him until 3pm today to respond. A video of the event will shortly be posted on the two campaign Facebook pages (links below). We'll keep you posted!
