Stop the closure of Ceri Richards's Arts Gallery at the Taliesin

Planned closure of Ceri Richards public gallery in the Taliesin.

Dear all,

I am forwarding this for your information, in case you would like to let your views be known to Swansea University decision makers.

Their plan is to close the Ceri Richards gallery in the Taliesin building, a well-used and well-loved part of the public access space in the heart of the university.

"I happen to have received an email about this from a friend and member of the RISW / Friends of Swansea Museum, an organisation with an interest in protecting the future of public access to culture and heritage, but I believe it is of wider public interest and particularly to art lovers, which is why I have created this petition."

Please read, share the information with others you may know and do consider writing a few lines to the decision makers.

Postal address is: The Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Swansea University, Singleton Park, Swansea SA2 8PP.

Prof. Stringer can also be contacted by e-mail: M.D.Stringer@swansea.ac.uk

Thank you.

Best wishes

Why is this important?

Creative places are very important part of our day living and our spiritual health. Closing the Gallery is dismissing the importance of culture in people's lives

Reasons for signing

  • We should all be justly proud of Ceri Richards and his artistic genius. The gallery which honours his life and his great art should not be lost.
  • City of culture?
  • I worked on the original building from start to finish. I visited it once some years ago and was appalled by the changes to the art gallery - too late to raise any objection. Now it appears there are more changes to the original. The building was in its original form a clear expression of a complex brief. It could be salvaged but more changes will make it beyond repair. Tragic.
