Stop the reduction/restriction of parking along Aberdeen beachfront
Do not reduce/restrict parking along Aberdeen beachfront.
Why is this important?
ACC are proposing to limit parking along the beach. This includes removing the parking spaces at the Don end (alongside the golf course/river) completely, and then making parking only available along one side of the road in other beach areas.
The number of people travelling to the beach has increased dramatically and whilst there may be a need for increased cycle lane capacity, this should not impede other visitors. Even before parking is reduced it is very difficult at present to obtain a space at the Footdee (fittie) end of the beach due to the increased number of people visiting by car.
Introducing cycle lanes will not reduce the requirement to park, as people visiting from further away, with dogs, sports equipment, people with disabilities, or simply people who cannot (for any reason) cycle to the beach need to travel there by car etc.
These parking restrictions will also negatively impact businesses trading at the beach- for example the Surf School and cafes etc.
