Stop the Trial of 5G on the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall
Stop the roll out of 5G on the Isles of Scilly and Cornwall and provide peer reviewed scientific evidence showing that there is no risk of harm from non-thermal Electro Magnetic Radiation (EMR) using the frequencies and cumulative exposure associated with 5G and the Internet of Things.
Why is this important?
The government and the telecoms industry is pushing forward with the roll out of 5G across the UK and Vodafone has announced that they are set to TRIAL 5G on the Isles of Scilly in 2019. The Isles of Scilly has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) since 1975 and is the smallest designation in the UK. The AONB is unusual as it covers the entire archipelago, including the uninhabited islands and rocks, with some Islands designated “scheduled landscapes” as a result of their rich visible histories.
There are over 10,000 peer reviewed studies, which are mostly undertaken on 3G and 4G technology only, which show that there is a risk of harm to humans, flora and fauna on levels significantly lower than the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) Guidelines. 5G is different from previous bandwidths as it will use a much higher frequency typically between 6GHz and 100GHz and it is unclear if there is any research available to prove that the technology is safe. On the 7th Feb 2019 Senator Blumenthal had it confirmed that in America that ZERO money had been set aside for research into the harmful effects of 5G technology.
In order to facilitate the 5G network it is estimated that there will need to be one antenna serving up to 12 houses. That means that an antenna can be and will be erected on the side of schools, libraries, leisure buildings and residential dwellings. Technology is being developed so the antenna will not consist just of the traditional poles, it will be integrated onto lamp posts and beneath manhole covers and it will be impossible to know where these will be as the network expands.
In September 2017 a group of 180 scientists from 35 Countries signed and issued a "moratorium on the roll out of 5G for telecommunication until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists independent from industry. 5G will substantially increase exposure to Radio Frequency Magnetic Fields (RE-EMF) on top of the 2G, 3G 4G wifi etc for telecommunications already in place. RE-EMF has been proven to be harmful for humans and the environment".
The ICNIRP set the guidelines for maximum electrical field and power and these were last updated in 1999, which would be around 1G / 2G / 3G only. The guidelines were based upon preventing thermal heating only - since 1999, numerous studies have proven that harm (animals and humans) has been detected at much lower levels associated with thermal heating.
Last year, lots of information on 5G was published, namely in May 2018, Dr Martin Pall released his damming 90 page report "5G: Great risk for EU, US and International Health! compelling evidence for eight distinct types of great harm caused by Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) exposures and the mechanism that causes them". In addition, the recent National Toxicology Program (NTP) (2018) and the Ramanzzini Institute (2018) both concluded that there was an increased cancer risk on rats when exposed to Radio Frequency (RF) similar in frequency to 3G and 4G. Hardall and Carlberg (2018) stated in their review of the two above studies "We conclude that there is clear evidence that RF radiation is a human carcinogen, causing glioma and vestibular schwannoma. There is some evidence of an increased risk of developing thyroid cancer, and clear evidence that RF radiation is a multi-site carcinogen. Based upon the preamble to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) monographs, RF radiation should be classified as "Carcinogenic to Humans - Group 1". At the moment the classification is 2B - "Possibly carcinogenic to humans" based upon an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, associated with wireless phone use.
The Independent Expert Group on Mobile Phones (IEGMP) chaired by Sir William Stewart produced the report in 2000, which stated that "it is not possible at present to say that exposure to RF radiation, even at levels below the national guidelines, is totally without potential adverse side effects, and that the gaps in knowledge are sufficient to justify a PRECAUTIONARY APPROACH".
Why is Vodaphone set to trial 5G on our beautiful Isles of Scilly, which is so important for tropical species of plants and migratory birds, without due regard for the impact on the health of all of the inhabitants and the environment. Vodaphone are not following the PRECAUTIONARY APPROACH - and not taking into consideration the peer reviewed research by independent scientists, proving that there is harm at much lower levels than the international guidelines provided by the ICNIRP.
STOP THE 5G ROLL OUT AND PROVIDE PEER-REVIEWED SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE PROVING THERE IS NO HARM TO HUMAN HEALTH AND TO THE ENVIRONMENT
