Stop unpaid carers being forced to attend job centre interviews
Please Carers UK and Carers Trust, stop the Tory government forcing unpaid carers from receiving harmful and threatening letters from the Department of Work and Pensions compelling them to attend job centre interviews
Why is this important?
Unpaid carers dedicate their lives to looking after loved ones, losing careers, social status and financial and emotional security. The Tory government is sending decent, unpaid carers, aggressive letters threatening to remove the small amount of benefits they receive if they fail to attend job centre interviews.
This is impractical when an unpaid carer maybe looking after someone suicidal, suffering dementia or has a learning disabled child, not to mention thousands of other obvious caring scenarios why to demand this from them in such an ugly fashion reflects badly on government.
Benefits, even though pitifully lacking are essential for unpaid carers to survive and support themelves and those they look after.
These nasty, hostile letters cause huge stress and real fear of being left penniless because they threaten that if the unpaid carer does not compulsorily attend a job centre interview that small income they have will be withdrawn.
Unpaid carers everywhere feel this is an insult to their already enormous level of sacrifice they make in working to help society in the community. We call on the two big paid structures Carers UK and Carers Trust to ask the Tory government to desist from this undignified practice. Unpaid carers demand our productivity be recognised in a respectful manner and given the due deference that it deserves by conservative ministers and MPs and these bullying letters are stopped.
