Intervene to strip Pastor Ade Omooba co-founder Christian Concern, of his MBE, as he and his organisation advocate the use of Gay Conversion Therapy towards the LGBTIQ+ community.
Why is this important?
Gay Conversion Therapy (GCT) is a widely discredited pseudoscience. It attempts to change a person’s LGBTIQ+ identity through prayer, counselling or medical intervention. The practice, which can involve mental and physical suffering in attempts to change a queer person’s sexuality from LGBTIQ+ to heterosexual.
Gay Conversion Therapy, ‘cure’ therapy or reparative therapy, refers to any form of treatment or psychotherapy which aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or to suppress a person’s gender identity. It is based on an assumption that being lesbian, gay, bi or trans is a mental illness that can be ‘cured’. These therapies are both unethical and harmful.
In the UK, all major counselling and psychotherapy bodies, as well as the NHS, have concluded that conversion therapy is dangerous and have condemned it by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. GCT has been widely outlawed, and described as torture by many health bodies and governments.
