Why is this important?
Sir David is former UK Government Chief Scientist and now the Government's Chief Negotiator. For years he has been publicly committed to a stringent code of ethics for scientists and honesty in science.
As the most senior civil servant dealing with climate change, he combines this with a gentle and attentive manner. Yet he has also proved to be fiercely independent and unyieldingly honest about the critical situation we are in now with accelerating rates of climate change and what to do about it.
After 25 years of campaigning myself, I have encountered only a few people who put truth before career. Competent and honest, David is one those people and that is why he is effective and trustworthy.
