Thyroid Protection in the Nuclear Industry

Pass legislation requiring protective collars to be worn by workers using radioactive materials.

Why is this important?

The thyroid is very susceptible to radiation. Thyroid cancer is a serious disease. At present - in the UK - there is no requirement for protection. In films made in the USA, actors playing staff involved in radioactive work can be seen wearing a protective collar. No such equipment is used in the UK.
