The war in Ukraine requires calm and considered words.
Political leaders have a duty to ensure we get to see the other side of this dangerous moment in human history.
It was alarming to hear the UK Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, encouraging British people to join the fight in Ukraine. It was even more alarming to learn that her words being used by Russia's President Vladimir Putin to threaten nuclear escalation in response.
No-one knows what Mr Putin thinks, but this surely highlights the horror of the current moment, the danger of careless acts and the need for calm.
Why is this important?
With huge power comes immense responsibility. So it is urgent that politicians tone down their rhetoric and calibrate their words carefully so we can all get through this crisis.
The whole world is watching and needs to have confidence that nuclear armed leaders can act responsibly.
