West Berkshire Council to resettle refugees

We are asking West Berkshire Council to follow the example of Kevin Davis, Leader, Royal Borough of Kingston, and other council leaders, who have pledged to resettle 50 refugees from countries such as Syria and Iraq

Why is this important?

The refugee crisis is growing. No government or organisation has yet come up with a solution to stabilise areas of the world affected by 'Islamic State' and other similar terrorist organisations. So the people of those countries have to flee. The tide of public opinion in the UK is turning and the British Government have now said they will fulfil their humanitarian obligations and take in more refugees. Local councils need to say that they are willing to resettle refugees locally, or the people will be crowded into camps and detention centres, and not be able to resettle or escape abuse and fear. We feel that West Berkshire could cope with such a small number as 50 refugees, and that the local population would help with this resettlement, through housing, mentoring and support. We are asking West Berkshire Council to follow the example of Kevin Davis, Leader, Royal Borough of Kingston, and other councils, who have pledged to resettle 50 refugees from countries such as Syria and Iraq in their local area.

Reasons for signing

  • I believe in equality wether you’re white, black, Syrian, American. We are all people and deserve freedom and our human rights. What if it was us? Everyone deserves a chance to be happy and free.
  • I hope we can support refugees through the current crisis, help them recover from their trauma and through education and training give them the skills to return (if they wish to) and rebuild their countries when it is safe for them to return. I have spent around 5 years of my life travelling on a tight budget with a back pack. I have been shown so much friendship and kindness by strangers that I would like to show some kindness to strangers in difficulty in my country.
  • What if it was us?
