WRU you MUST secure Shaun Edwards on a new deal NOW!

As fans, it is not enough to just acknowledge the obvious impact we have on match days but we are the soul at all levels of our sport. We want a voice in any further developments in our national sport. Without the unique atmosphere we generate, the suits would have no product to sell to potential sponsors, investors, partners, tv and the usual chancers that will be attracted to our sport.

So, let us start with an obvious and immediate national issue, which is at the top of all Welsh Rugby fans wish list. SHAUN EDWARDS, the best defensive coach in the world is still NOT tied to a new contract after the World Cup. This is a fluid situation and it does not matter what has happened in past months. All that matters, is that we show this true and honourable man, that we, as Welsh fans appreciate him, his principles and the way he conducts himself. This guy is an absolute gift to the players, the management team and Welsh Rugby. His contribution to our team is clear to see and evident in how they respond as one to his coaching and leadership.

Warren may well deserve a lot of the plaudits but when he was on his sabbaticals, Shaun Edwards was the clear and obvious continuity in the team. So, with a radical change due after the World Cup, if there is an opportunity for stability in the planned progressive change of style with a new coach, then we must grab it without hesitation.

Wayne Pivac is a great choice as our new coach but he has no experience of international rugby, nor do any of his newly selected coaching staff, except for Neil. In this fluid environment, the Scarlets performances are almost the polar opposite, of those for which he was selected to lead our team post Gatland. If the abject defensive performance of his team on the 23 March 2019 against the Cardiff Blues, does not raise serious concerns, then all the great work our National team has delivered so far, could quickly dissolve as well.

The answer is easy, even for the WRU….. Offer Shaun Edwards a deal he cannot resist and leave the rest to us. We will show him how much we want him to stay and deep down, he already knows that no matter what other offers he may well receive… Nothing, absolutely nothing, can compare to the embracing support we all show him at every match. He will find it very, very hard not to want to continue to be part of this experience and that unique adrenaline rush at our ‘Stadium’ (whether the roof is on or off) You can’t buy this total, loyal support to OUR team and if we do nothing, the suits will as usual, take the easy option and allow things to slip by.
