The government wants to make all schools into academies - schools funded by taxpayers, but run by businesses, sponsors or trusts.

You could start a petition to save your local school if you're a parent who wants a say in the future of the school your kids go to. Maybe your local school is at risk of closure if the government's plans go ahead. Or you might be a teacher willing to lead a campaign to stop your school becoming an academy. If you're a parent governor, you could run a campaign against the government's plans to scrap the role of parent governors.

    No Academisation at Willow Grove
    When my son was excluded from a mainstream school (because they failed to fully cater for his needs) he was at rock bottom. When he started at Willow Grove the change was immediate - my smiling, intelligent boy flourished and has almost made up for what he missed. The headteacher is excellent. The governors are excellent. The family partnership service is a lifesaver. Many teachers and parents are already standing against the plans, comparing the plans to back door privatisation. Our children's education is too important to entrust to corporations who often have money at the top of their agenda. The students and teachers would be the ones to suffer. One size does not fit all, and local parents and teachers should have a say in the future of our school. Ideally I would like to see no school forced to convert, but at the very least, I would like to see my son and his friends continue to thrive in their learning environment.
