Build the Ongar Road crossing in Brentwood

UPDATE: 10/10/2015 The Crossing has been built by Essex County Council - better late than never!

Essex County Council was paid £33,000 to build a crossing on Ongar Road near Sainsburys outside The Meads retirement homes.

Lots of elderly residents cross the road every day to get to Sainsburys and have to walk all the way up to Wilson's Corner to cross the road safely.

The plans for the crossing were promised and paid for way back in 2011, but where is the crossing? It's time for Essex County Council to stop promising and start building.

Why is this important?

Last week someone was taken to hospital after being hit by a car close to the Victoria Arms pub – just yards from where the crossing is supposed to be.

The council first said the crossing would be "at least designed" by April 2012 and then they said it would be in place by the end of last year. Now they're saying it will be 6-8 weeks, but haven't appointed a contractor or set a start date.

The money is there and ready to pay for the crossing. It's time for the council to stop promising things and start building.
