FIRE CUTS RISKS LIVES IN LANCASHIRE

Dear Mr Ollerenshaw,

Please don't let the government cuts result in the loss of a fire engine at Lancaster Fire Station.

Why is this important?

There are only two Fire Engines at Lancaster Fire Station covering one of the largest areas in the county.Due to Government cuts the Fire Authority has no other option than to remove one engine from the station.

We as serving Firefighters must make the public aware that we need a minimum of two engines and nine Firefighters to ensure a successful rescue at a house fire or a road traffic collision. Without these resources arriving promptly, the outcome could prove fatal. If the cuts are imposed there will be a minimum five minute delay from turnout of the proposed 'on call' replacement engine. This would be crewed by retained staff who would not have the same amount of training hours as a full time crew.

This is your Fire Service for which you only pay approx £56 per year from your council tax, this is a great value ' insurance policy' that covers rescues from fire, flooding, sea, rivers, building collapse, lift, trench collapse, large animal rescue..... The list is endless. Demand your monies worth, Demand your safety oppose the cuts.

The rot is spreading as predicted! The next wave of cuts have already been informally discussed, speculations that the Government's continuing squeeze on an already meagre Fire Service budget will lead to most Stations in the county being r...educed to one engine. Coming to a town near you soon!Lobby your local MP'S, LETS UP THE PRESSURE, spread and share this link to as many as you know. THESE CUTS COULD COST LIVES!

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Fire officers have confirmed that there is not other alternative to the proposed cuts irrespective of local council opinion. The management team and the Fire Authority have had their hands firmly tied by Government and are in the unenviable position of having to make these harsh decisions. We must lobby our local MP's and put pressure on the Government. This is happening on a National level and will undoubtedly lengthen attendance times and reduce the level of service you will receive from your Fire Service, lives could be put at risk.

Lancaster City Council chaired a meeting with Lancashire Fire Officers to discuss the proposed cuts. They concluded that the evidence for the removal of the second Fire Engine was unsatisfactory and requested Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service offer alternative proposals. The panel did concede that the Fire Authority were not to blame, citing Government budget constraints as the catalyst for these severe front line cuts. The council are to express their concerns to local MP's
