Homeless Rights Of Justice

The petition was handed in to Manchester City Council and a response was recieved from them which I fowarded to all the signees. https://conradbower.wordpress.com/2015/06/04/manchester-city-council-reply-to-38-degrees-petition/

Guarantee everyone in the homeless protest camp in St Peters Square Manchester a permanent home. Temporary housing may be used as a short term stepping stone to a permanent home, but they must be guaranteed a permanent home.

Why is this important?

Because Saint Peters square is again the site of protesters demanding justice and a fairer society. On the 16th of August 1819 it was the people of Lancashire demonstrating for parliamentary reform that were massacred at Peterloo. This time it is the homeless people of Greater Manchester that are upholding the fine tradition of radical protest in Manchester. They have set up camp near to the central library entrance and are demanding better treatment for homeless people across Greater Manchester.

Because the number of homeless people is growing across the UK due to the austerity measures being pursued by our government. Because these people deserve a home. This is a heroic David vs Goliath struggle, and we should make sure David wins!

How it will be delivered

A copy of the petition was handed in on the13 May ahead of the court appeal on the 14th of May.

The petition is still live and the protest is still going. If a thousand signatures are reached I can present the petition to the council again which will trigger a debate at the scrutiny comittee level
