Increase Edinburgh Fringe National News Coverage

Increase coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Why is this important?

Each morning many of us tune in to listen or watch the headlines of the day. BBC Breakfast news is a favourite with thousands of people tuning in each day.

This is then followed by the weather report and a large section on sport. This is something I would like to see change. I would like to see better coverage of Arts & Cultural events happening across the UK, promoting Health and well being, community engagement and education.

The Edinburgh Fringe is arguably the greatest Cultural event in the world and draws people from across the globe to see a wide range of performances and yet has not been mentioned during the peak times on national television. However, Wimbledon for example, was a daily feature throughout July, guest speakers on BBC Breakfast, Tennis activities and games throughout the show made constant reference to this event. Yet no mention is made to an event that has a much greater audience. ( 473,372 attended Wimbledon 2016, 2,475,143 tickets were sold for Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016).

If you would like the BBC to increase its coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe, informing us of the wide range of acts; street performances, comedy, music, dance, theatre, magic - the impact the festival has so much more then please sign this petition and let's change how the arts is reported in the media!
