Mitchell Library Main Reading Hall open for public use

Reinstate the Main Reading Hall in the Mitchell Library to its original intended purpose, giving access to the public. This request includes returning the original furniture which is currently in storage and has been replaced by modern function tables and chairs.

Why is this important?

The Mitchell is one of Europe's largest public libraries and the Main Reading Hall with the leaded glass ceiling is the most impressive and inspiring of the rooms. In spite of this, it is not enjoyed by the public or visitors to the city. The room lies unused during the day. The original wooden tables and chairs are currently in storage.
