New School, New Pool (like for like)

Seaham is due to get a new secondary school, which is long overdue, however the new school does not include a swimming pool but our current school does.

We would like our new secondary school to have a pool, like for like! Without a pool, current swimming lessons for children from the ages of 5+ will be lost, along with other various groups that use this facility.

Why is this important?

Its is so important that Seaham's new secondary school is replaced, like for like, and that it includes a swimming pool.

Past generations of Seaham learnt to swim in a makeshift outdoor swimming pool, colloquially known as the pit pond, which was in fact water storage for Dawdon Colliery, however following the demise of the mining industry, and the closure of the three pits which were in the town, the pit pond was lost to the following generations.

Swimming is such a vital life skill and even more so for the children of Seaham who live on the North Sea coast to have access to a decent sized learning pool. We believe the whole community would benefit from the replacement of the pool. This is not about profit, this is about saving lives. Surely one pool is worth more than several lives which have been lost in the past few years in our seas.

Thank you all for signing the petition, can you all keep spreading the word and getting friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to sign up, its such an easy signing up process however some people have said they've read about the petition but said they would sign it later, its best to get them to sign up straight away before they forget or get busy doing other things. Thanks again for your support x
