Open up empty buildings in Glasgow

This campaign has now ended:

We met with Glasgow City Council to put the case for greater homelessness provision in Glasgow. There are stronger ideas out there to help address rough sleeping.

Open up empty buildings in Glasgow

Have Glasgow City Council follow the lead of Manchester and open up empty buildings for homeless people this winter.

Why is this important?

To plead to the Council to open its empty buildings to the homeless in winter. I cannot imagine sleeping rough in driving, biting winds, snow, ice and winter rain. It's inhumane. It's also inexcusable when we have so many empty buildings.

In the winter of 2015/16, Glasgow City Mission recorded that they were full to capacity on 32 occasions- a situation that has previously never happened. Clearly there is a growing and worrying trend of street homelessness in Glasgow.

Reasons for signing

  • As much as I agree with this, the answer is not just a roof over your head, these guys (mainly guys) have drug, alcohol and mental health so would need to have trained workers involved and Glasgow city council just won't fork out the money and resources needed. I do believe though that it's time our government started listening to the tax payer and what WE want OUR money via GCC spent on and stop wasting money on other things and start looking after the people of Glasgow and beyond...
  • No one should be homeless ive been tjere and its not noce especially at this time of year when its freezing and they have nothing to keep them warm its shocking and if theres an empy building then why not let them its small things like that, that makes them feel a wee bit better
  • A first step towards finding real homes for homeless people, to help them rebuild their lives
