Refugees Welcome in Amber Valley

Offer to home 40 refugee families

Why is this important?

The tragic story of Aylan, the three years old toddler who drowned when fleeing Syria, after his town was attacked by Isis and of his five year old brother and his mum who also died trying to reach safety has shocked all of us. Yet, this is only one story out of thousands of stories of people who have been forced to desperately flee their homes.

Under international law, genuine refugees, who are people fleeing war or persecution, have a right to asylum. In Austria and Germany, the Red Cross are standing by to receive migrants who will have the opportunity to apply for asylum.

Across the EU, we urgently need coordinated action to address this tragic crisis.

In the meantime, what are we doing in the UK? Are the British the kind of people who turn their backs as people drown in their desperation to flee persecution and death in countries like Syria and Eritrea or are we the kind of people who rise to our humanitarian responsibilities?

So in Amber Valley, let's set an example and provide refuge to 40 families in their hour of need.
