SAVE MIDDLETON NHS WALK-IN SERVICE

We the undersigned believe that the Walk-in Centre at Middleton Health Centre is an essential, well-located and accessible NHS facility in the centre of our town. We demand the Clinical Commissioning Group change their plans and keep it open.

Why is this important?

The NHS Walk-in service in Middleton Shopping Centre is very accessible to everyone living in the areas of Middleton, Heywood and Rochdale. The service is open from 8am-8pm every day (8am-6pm at weekends), 365 days of the year, including Bank Holidays. The GP and Nurse-Practitioner led walk-in centre sees over 22,000 patients per year meaning many patients can receive on the day access to urgent quality care. An in-house survey has shown that over 60% of our walk-in patients would otherwise go to A&E if the walk-in service was not available.

We do not believe that alternative local services will be able to cope with demand should the Walk-in service close and local patients will have reduced choice and access to urgent care. The central location and efficient nature of the service lets patients be seen in a timely and cost-effective manner.

We want the CCG to commit to keeping this service open for the future.

*The total number of signatories on this petition includes 7000 paper signatures collected at the Walk in Centre and around Middleton.

On Friday 6th November Middleton Patient Participation Group and staff delivered 9333 signatures to HMR CCG.
We have had overwhelming support from our patients, public, papers and politicians alike, and an undeniable message has been sent to the CCG that care about their services, do wish to be included in the decision making process, and that the walk-in centre is highly regarded and needed for the people of Middleton and surrounding areas.

The next event will be the Joint Commissioning Committee meeting on Tuesday 24th November 1-4pm at the Committee Rooms, Rochdale Town Hall where a decision will be made regarding the future of the centre.
We have now stepped down from active campaigning whilst waiting news.
Many thanks again. It has been a pleasure to run this campaign with you.
Very best wishes

On Tues 3rd November over 600 signatures were added to the petition to save the Walk-in Centre at our last push event with the 38 Degrees Ambulance drawing attention to the campaign. Patients, local councillors and 38 Degrees Supporters all braved the brisk weather and helped to raise the total tally to over 9000 signatures as we head towards the end of the HMR CCG consultation period this Friday 6th November

Support continues to build for the walk-in campaign, with over 7600 signatures so far.
We have had a visit and support in a parliamentary question time from Liz McInnes MP who asked Jeremy Hunt MP to support our campaign. Local Councillors have also been down to the centre and Cllr Chris Furlong tweeted a picture with colleagues "Vital service must not be cut."

Next week will be the end of the CCG consultation period and we will be supported by the 38 Degrees Campaign Ambulance on Tuesday 3rd November 9.30-2pm in a final push to raise awareness and gain signatures. Please come along! We'd love to see you there - Middleton Town Centre between Tesco and the Arndale Centre.

Thank you so much for your support!
Jenny
