Save the 19 & 20 bus services in York!

We the undersigned are concerned about the proposed cuts to the number 19 and 20 buses that form a vital lifeline for many residents living along those routes. We urge the City of York Council to reconsider its plans and to leave both of these bus routes as they currently are, allowing residents to continue to have access to local buses near to where they live.

Why is this important?

The 19 and 20 bus routes serve areas of the city which are not covered by other bus services, so the council's proposals will cut off a vital lifeline to the residents living along those routes, especially those who are old or have limited mobility. Reliable and frequent bus services near to where people live reduce congestion and air pollution, both of which are major problems for the whole city. Cutting these services will force even more people to drive, making these problems worse. This is part of a major consultation on bus services in York and we will be submitting this petition as part of the response to the consultation.

Find out about all the bus services affected by the Council's proposed cuts in funding here: http://www.itravelyork.info/buses/about-buses-in-york/about-buses/consultation-on-changes-to-supported-services/
These include ALL council-supported evening and Sunday services, which will cripple York's evening economy. There are already far too many people in York (especially the elderly) who cannot participate in events after 6pm as they cannot get home.

What's at stake here?
The 19 and 20 bus routes serve a number of places and provide connections which are otherwise nearly impossible, for example from Leeman Road to Acomb shops or from Acomb round to Tesco on Clifton Moor (and back, with your shopping). The York Bus Forum heard from a whole range of people who use the service and would be adversely affected if it stopped running, particularly since it is the only service which allows connections around the ring road instead of requiring people to go into the centre and out again on radial routes.
