Save the Viking Hoard for Galloway

Galloway's Viking Hoard should be displayed in the local area and not be lost to Edinburgh. A crucial decision will be made about where this treasure will be displayed on 23 March 2017, so please add your name urgently to our petition.

Why is this important?

The magnificent Galloway Viking Hoard, buried in the region’s soil 1,000 years ago for safekeeping, should have its home in Kirkcudbright’s new art gallery. We are calling on Fiona Hyslop to help make sure this happens and The National Museum of Scotland to agree. This would be good for tourism and the economy in a region that has suffered greatly in recent years and would make Scotland’s 2017 Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology something to celebrate.

Reasons for signing

  • We are all Viking whores
  • The artefacts were found in this area and the entire collection should remain in control of the area. The National Museum could have them from time to time as a travelling exhibit. To 'allow' Kirkcudbright to have only some of them is unfair. The national Museum has plenty of exhibits, many of which cannot be shown all of the time. Give Kirkudbright a chance to boost visitiors to the region.
  • The hoard belongs where it was found, a principle that I hope would apply where I live too.
