Stop holiday lets destroying our communities

Stop holiday lets destroying our communities

Tell the Scottish Government to stop holiday lets destroying our communities by:
1) Giving councils the power to limit the number and duration of holiday lets in their areas
2) Bringing in new taxes on holiday lets, and ring-fencing that money for improving local housing
3) Requiring holiday let landlords to register, just like normal landlords have to, to make sure they're following the rules and that tenants are protected

Why is this important?

Holiday lets are ripping Scotland’s communities apart. In some places, there are now more holiday lets than normal homes for rent. That means families with nowhere to go are forced out of the places they’ve called home all their lives.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. The Scottish government are asking the public for views on what to do about holiday lets, and together we can make sure we win real protections for our communities.

The big lobbyists protecting companies like Airbnb will be working double-time to stop any new regulations that could hit their astronomic profits. It’s down to us to drown them out.

Reasons for signing

  • Lots of flats build for first time buyers are sold to people who already have numerous properties . Another point is that first time buyers are not getting a fair chance as buy to let snapping them up at ridiculous prices. No parking for residents as car parks are taken up with tourists cars .
  • The block of flats I live in was built with a subsidy from the Scottish Government for the 'LIFT' scheme and 4 have being sold outright and bought for holiday lets. When I complained to the SG I was told there was no interested parties wanting to part buy on the LIFT Scheme??? Someone is telling lie's.
  • I saw a property on the High Street last week, which had NINE key boxes for holidaymakers at the front door! That can't be right.
