Stop The Boris Evictions

Dear Petitioner,

We have won. remaining families at Raynesfield can remain there. The Deputy Mayor has made a decision to stop the evictions and change the policy. There is no doubt from what I have been told that it is this campaign and the associated press and TV publicity that has stopped the evictions. I want to thank everyone who joined this campaign. When people are prepared to stand up for their themselves and others join them in a good cause: we can win.

The decision-makers have sought to dress up the decision to make it look like a considered response by Conservative politicians. In fact none of them, whether councillors, MP, or local GLA Assembly Member did anything to oppose the evictions until now.

Still a late change to do the right thing is still a positive decision.

Boris Johnson, or anyone on his behalf, had failed to respond at all to the Petition or my accompanying request that he stop the evictions. Then at 4pm on Tuesday last, only hours before the Boris evictions were due to take effect on 21 households at Raynesfield, Grand Drive, the residents were called and told that the evictions would not go ahead last Wednesday or today when due to take place. The residents have been told nothing more. I gather that 'someone high up' has decided that all the 'property options for Raynesfield are bieng reviewed'. So the residents, although relieved that they are not immediately to be evicted, are left in a state of uncertainty. Some have brought back possessions from storage, but had already given vital things away such as fridges and washing machines.

I am seeking more clarity about the future intentions for these residents. Meanwhile the campaign continues and featured on London Live yesterday

Residents are left in a state of complete uncertainty about their future

Still no news on what the real intentions of Boris are. Will the residents be allowed to continue living in thir homes or will the evictions be renewed?

I have heard this evening that the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime has given instructions to their agents, Crown Housing, to stop all evictions for this week and next. On its face, this is very good news. Thanks to everyone who has joined the campaign so far. I will continue with this petition until they announce that there will be no more evictions at all.

So far the office of Boris Johnson has not replied to the petition and the evictions continue

I am going to City Hall to hand the petition over for the Mayor. So far we have 1698 signatures. Thanks to everyone who has supported the campaign to date. The evictions start today and are set to continue through to 4th November. Mayor Boris Johnson could stop them at any time so we will continue the petition.

The situation really is desperate for those being evicted and there are heart rending stories of homes being broken up, families separated and possessions lost. We are looking to present the petition with as many signatures as possible to Boris Johnson on the afternoon of Wednesday 22nd, which is at the start of the evictions that are scheduled to carry on until 4th November.
