Stop the franchising of Lewes Crown Post Office

Stop the planned franchising of Lewes Crown Post Office.

Why is this important?

Lewes Crown Post Office is under threat.
On January 19th Post Office Ltd announced plans to franchise 39 of its branches, and close three.
Lewes Post Office is on the list of those to be franchised once a suitable retailer is found. This franchising is not for our benefit.
Lewes is a busy Post Office. Customers will be all too clearly aware of the queues frequently experienced at peak times.
Basically, the Post Office wants to sell the valuable Victorian building that our branch is housed in.
Putting it into a local shop, will lead to longer queues, less services offered, and an all round inferior service, which will affect businesses and individual customers. Anyone who has visited Ringmer Post Office will be aware of this kind of service.
Our Post Office has been on the same site for over 100 years. We have to stop this move.
Thank you

Hi everyone and thanks for supporting the campaign to stop the closure of Lewes Crown Post Office. We think that an announcement from the Post Office must be pretty close by now and we're planning to go up to London this Wedensday, 22 June, to deliver it to Sajid Javid, Minister of State for Business, Information and Skills and to Paula Vennalls, CEO of the Post Office. We want them to hear the voice of Lewes saying "No".
Please drop us a line of you can offer any help or support. We're not stopping gathering signatures, so please do continue to share through your networks to reach out goal of 5000 signatures.
Best regards
Your local Lewes campaign co-ordinators.

CALL TO ACTION! It looks increasingly likely after announcements earlier this week that Lewes Crown Post Office is slated for closure with a smaller franchised retail unit to be set up in WHSmith, which is taking over 60 Post Offices in a major sell-off deal.
The people of Lewes have been clear that they don't want this to happen with more than 3600 signatures already gathered on our petition.
Join us and the Communications Workers Union at 10am tomorrow, Saturday 16th April, outside the Post Office on the High Street, Lewes to protest against this decision, which will affect jobs and the local economy in Lewes.
And come along to a public meeting on Monday, 18th April, 7.30pm, at the Elephant & Castle pub to hear what the plans and what we can all do about them together.
Thank you for all your brilliant support so far and let's keep going to change this decision.
