  • Butterfields Won't Budge
UPDATE: 01/11/16 We won! Following this campaign, a housing association called 'Dolphin Living' has come to the rescue of tenants at the Butterfields Estate in Walthamstow and bought 49 homes. Dolphin Living said: "Whilst our focus remains on bringing homes to market for those who live or work in the City of Westminster, we have taken the decision to invest in the Butterfields Estate at open market value. “This means that there will be no further evictions of tenants for at least the next 5 years, coupled with our commitment to ensure that no unrealistic rental increases are activated during this period – capped at 5% per annum.” Read more here: https://home.38degrees.org.uk/2016/11/07/win-save-butterfields-estate/

  • Sadiq Khan– Ban Hostmaker ads on TFL
Transport for London has banned adverts for holiday let companies that take homes away from Londoners, following a successful campaign against the anti-tenant adverts by Generation Rent. New advertising guidelines will mean that any advertising that encourages removing homes from the private rental market will be banned from the TfL estate. The victory comes after over 8000 renters signed a Generation Rent petition asking TfL to drop adverts from short term lets company Hostmaker. In the adverts, Hostmaker told landlords they could increase their yield by 30% by ditching tenants and switching their properties to short term lets.

  • Stop the Council's plan to build on Leyton marshes
28/01/22 We won! London Borough of Waltham Forest did not rezone the large swathe of green open space around The WaterWorks Centre for housing, and has committed to protecting the borough’s Metropolitan Open Land in its draft local plan. That’s not to say that the Waterworks Meadow is safe from development. The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority still has plans to knock down the WaterWorks Centre and build something on the site of the Centre and its car park, but their original plan to build housing has been scuppered and it will be harder because the site hasn’t been rezoned. If you want to keep an eye on the story as it unfolds, follow Save Lea Marshes on Twitter (@SaveLeaMarshes) or online (www.saveleamarshes.org.uk).
