  • Stop oil exploration in Cardigan Bay Marine SAC
Dear friends, family and supporters I am very pleased to inform you that Eni UK have announced that they have suspended any plans to carry out seismic testing in Cardigan bay Marine SAC due to the overwhelming public outcry. This is an amazing victory however we will have to watch them closely as previous attempts were slipped through at very short notice so we will have to be vigilant. Thank you all so much for your support and please keep signing and sharing as I still intend to deliver the petition at the end of the week to demonstrate the massive public sentiment and ensure that the UK Government think twice before making rash and reckless decisions such as this.

  • Ban combustible building materials now
01/10/18 - We won! Housing Minister James Brokenshire has just announced a ban on dangerous combustible building materials, like the cladding that was used on Grenfell tower. The government has chosen to put people before profit and you were a part of making that happen, so thank you. So many lives were turned upside down after the Grenfell tragedy. Since then, we’ve been campaigning hard as ‘Grenfell United’ for justice and change, to make sure no families have to go through what we did. Your signature on our petition helped us pile the pressure on the government before the announcement when it really mattered. Here’s what Ahmed Elgwahry, who lost his mother and sister in the fire, had to say: “It is heartbreakingly too late for our families but we’re one step closer to making sure other families across the country can go to bed at night safe in their homes.”

  • Protect small cider producers
Thanks to your support we were able to hand in a petition with over 26,000 signatures urging the Government to back small cider producers. On 8th July 2015, the Government responded in its Budget. The Chancellor has announced that the Government will retain the current duty exemption for small cider producers. This is excellent news for real cider drinkers and small producers alike. CAMRA is delighted with the Government’s commitment and will now be working hard to ensure that they can keep the promise with a legal exemption in the EU Directive. Thank you for making this a campaign win!

  • No gravel extraction haul road through Fairlop Waters Country Park
Lunch time on the 22nd November Jenny Chalmers and I had a site meeting with Councillor John Howard one of the Ward Councillors and Councillor Jas Athwal Leader of Redbridge Council, both councillors were very receptive to the Haul Road cause noting the terrible loss of habitat in the Country Park area and the potential effects on protected wildlife. Cllr Athwal stated that he was going to discuss the situation with senior officers of the Council. In the evening we had the deputation booked for the full Council Meeting at Ilford Town Hall six of us took to the Council Chamber floor where Jenny gave the deputation address, fitting in all the main points within the allocated two minutes. A series of question and answers followed from the assembled Councillors when finally Cllr Athwal asked the final question “My question is, if we move the haul road to the area that you suggested, would that meet your requirements?” I replied “It is a compromise, from our perspective that is the least evil route.” Cllr Athwal replied “Done!” There were smiles from the assembled Councillors and jubilation from the supporters that braved the cold night to be in the gallery. So we have done it, people power has won the day for nature conservation. So thank you all for your support I don't think we could of done it without you!
