Ancoats Draft Development Consultation/Feedback

With reference to your Ancoats & New Islington Development Consultation/Exhibition we, the residents of Ancoats Urban Village (M4), are very concerned with the increasing concretisation of the Village without any earthy, green space and therefore we would like to see the site bounded by George Leigh Street, Sherrat Street, Blossom Street and Bengal Street remaining open for the local community to use as a community garden.

The houses in the area have no gardens; our aim is to convert the site into a green oasis for children to play in safety in an open space within shouting distance of their homes, and residents and workers from the surrounding offices to use that area for freestyle exercise, alfresco lunches and teatime picnics.

This tree-lined site will bring the community together and foster physical and mental wellbeing in the community. Local community associations would take on the responsibilities of running and administering their garden funded by their own resources. Local community associations will be joint key-holders of the garden to ensure the daily opening and closing of their garden.

We hope that, for the wellbeing of the local residents, this site can be assigned to the local community to use for the above-mentioned purposes.
