Traffic calming measures on A647 Pudsey

Traffic calming measures on A647 Pudsey

Put speed cameras along the A647 from Thornbury roundabout to Dawson's Corner to enforce the 40 mph speed limit and CCTV cameras on the pedestrian crossings to stop cars jumping the lights.

Why is this important?

Since the reconfiguration of the A647 Leeds/Bradford Road there has been an increase in reports of very dangerous driving. Drivers regularly speed up and down the length of the road from Bradford to Leeds and back again, turning at the roundabout at Dawson's Corner. Drivers also regularly jump the pedestrian lights outside the Woodhall post office and there has been several near misses involving local residents including children and babies in prams. The police have been informed on some occasions when we have been able to get car registration numbers, however traffic calming measures are desperately needed before someone gets killed or severely injured.

Reasons for signing

  • I drive along this road daily. It is fraught with dangerous driving, speeding and near misses. The road is used by school children, young mothers with babies in Parma and elderly people who are all at risk.
  • As the main route from my home to almost everywhere I find using this road quite intimidating at times. Apart from the large numbers of speeding drivers (mostly young men) there are other dangers such as the slip road from the Stanningley by-pass to the A647 to Bradford where traffic often has to cross over into other lanes, and parked cars half way between Dawson's Corner and the Thornbury Barracks roundabout. Anything that slows people down has to be a potential life saver.
  • I use this road regularly and witness some applauding driving by certain individuals. It's only a matter of time before someone is ceriously injured or even killed.
