Ban Dangerous Pesticides in Trafford

Please ban the spraying of Monsanto's Roundup and other glyphosate herbicides on our streets and parks.

Why is this important?

The use of glyphosates has already been banned or restricted in 8 countries. It is not acceptable that ourselves, our children and the animals we share our community with are being routinely exposed to these chemicals whether we like it or not.

This is a matter of great importance for those of us who care about each other's health and the health of our children, our cats, our dogs and all the flora and fauna of this borough.

The petition has now been handed in to Cllr Steve Adshead, shadow environment spokesman and Labour group leader on Trafford Council. Although apparently interested, he was evasive when I asked him about presenting it to the council leader, saying there are legal procedures to go through regarding petitions.

I made him aware of Pesticide Action Network UK who are working with other councils to reduce or eliminate glyphosate use. Their man Nick Mole (great name for an environmentalist!) is willing to come and talk to the council about it, but whether Cllr Adshead will take this up is doubtful. Anyone willing to come with me to see him again to apply more pressure?
