Ban smoking when driving
Smoking whilst driving represents a significant danger to the driver and other road users. In the event that the cigarette is dropped, the driver is immediately distracted and could potentially lead to a serious collision, damaging the driver, the vehicle and other innocent road users. The risks are far greater than using a mobile phone whilst driving, and we request that this be debated with the view to introducing it into law.
Why is this important?
It is dangerous to smoke whilst driving, as it not only endangers the driver, but other road users. Currently, the law outlaws smoking if the vehicle is a work vehicle, as it is an extension of the workplace, but this does not go far enough and ban drivers from smoking in their own vehicles too.
