Improve Wigan Cycle Network

We want Wigan Council to improve the cycle network across the borough.

This can be achieved through investing more money in safer cycle routes, bike lanes on busy roads and more places for cyclists to lock their bikes. The current cycling infrastructure is an embarrassment and totally unsafe for cyclists to use.

It's highly dangerous for anyone to risk travelling by bike on most roads in the borough and when there are current plans to build a connection road from Hindley to lower Ince, Wigan council should also use this as an opportunity to create new cycle lanes on roads frequently used by cyclists such as Atherton and Wigan roads and ensure that more provisions are available for those wishing to cycle safely in the borough.

The Wigan council cycling page is also an abysmal effort towards encouraging people to cycle. There needs to be more benefits for those who actively choose cycling over driving such as cycle to work schemes.

Why is this important?

A fatality happened on Robin Park Road in May.

A tragedy like this is a clear indicator that the Wigan cycle network is unfit for use. Its high time that something has to be done to make cycling safer in the borough and to prevent any further incidents happening in the future.
