Open up empty buildings in Hackney
Follow the lead from Manchester to provide buildings for the homeless. We are calling for Storage space and office space for our hackney outreach teams to organise and distribute from, currently we are doing this from our own homes and have to refuse important donations, We need a safe building for people to be safe and access services that cannot access the night shelter, we need access to showers and washing machines and a safe room so we can provide dignity and a safe place to talk to our homeless people. We can then co-ordinate with Green house, night shelter , drug and alcohol and Health services and prevent deaths on our streets .
Why is this important?
To plead to the Council to open its empty buildings to the homeless this winter. We have a night shelter for 25 people run by volunteers but due to health and saftey many vulnerable people are not allowed to access the service. It is communal sleeping in a hall , usually with no showers .The HIVE DALSTON showcases what our community can do when we work together . Open your empty buildings and our homeless can have privacy to sleep , a proper bed at night , support to move forward and be inclusive . Please can we have an empty building so we can help turn peoples lives around and look after each other. Thankyou
How it will be delivered
We will present the petition to the new Mayor Mr Granville who made a commitment to address the housing and homelessness problem and has appointed two people to specifically work on these issues. We will seek to work in partnership for the best outcomes .
