Rename Tattenham Corner Emily Davison Corner

Rename Tattenham Corner Emily Davison Corner

Change the name of Epsom Downs Racecourse's Tattenham Corner to Emily Davison Corner to commemorate the Suffragette who was killed by the King's horse there in the 1913 Derby.

Why is this important?

In 1913 Emily Davison ran in front of the King's horse and was killed, in what was probably the most historically memorable event of the movement for Women's Suffrage. Emily Davison should be remembered, as should all women who campaigned for women's suffrage in the early 20th Century. The place where she made her stand should carry her name so that her sacrifice will always be remembered

Reasons for signing

  • Significant acts that change history need recognition
  • Females owe so much to this lady who gave her life for what she believed in- it would be a fitting tribute to her and to all females in the UK and a reminder that female suppression still exists in UK and around the world and the cause continues for equality , at home, the workplace and in society .
  • History is what we remember, often by accident, such as in place names. She died for the right of women to vote, it's the least they could do.
