Reopen the Dumfries -Stranraer Railway.
Increase public transport options, put Galloway back on the railway map, remove lorry traffic from the A75, increase tourism in Dumfries and Galloway.
I signed the petition because it would make a great difference to people in Dumfries and Galloway to get around easier and create more tourism. Just look at the Edinburgh to Tweedbank railway, it created a difference.
This would be far better for the infrastructure of Scotland and Dumfries and Galloway as it would bring much needed work and tourism to the area.
How much does it cost D&G Council to keep resurfacing and patching up potholes on A75? This seems to be done on a permanent basis, caused mainly by lorries to and from Stranraer Ferry. Wouldnt freight trains be a better way of transporting goods along this route? Costly initially but how much would it save in road maintenance? Also it'd be great for tourism - the regions main industry and inward investment.
